One of our neighbors up the street has a full breed Australian Cattle Sheepdog, and that thing is always going, great with the kids and very protective.
We re-hash the "we need a puppy" topic at least once a month at our house. The kids think they need a puppy, while dad knows the puppy will become his responsibility when it's no longer a puppy.
I told them we have to wait for the dog to go and at least five cats, before another animal is allowed in the house, we'll see how long that lasts, but 2 years and nothing new except a few rats!
We might get a dog in the fall. My oldest will be in 7th grade, and she'll be able to assist with dog duties after school. Right now, we leave at 7:15am and nobody gets home till about 5:00pm, so a dog just doesn't fit in our schedule.
