we are about 40 miles from base so, it's usually only a major ALS call that they dispatch the NJSP helicopter.

Steve I live within 10 or 15 minutes of the closest State police helicopter unit. MD has 7 bases for the medevacs. The county and city police fly out of the same airport near my house. I also live wiithin 15 minutes of the R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center so I see alot of the medevacs flying every day.

We only have two, North and South based out of The UMDNJ Newark and Camden, but we also have a mutual aid from PA and one from lower NY State.

We have several spread out across the state. Part of the registration fees for vehicle tags goes towards keeping the medevacs flying.

There are two choppers about 20 miles away or about 7 air minutes.

For us it is 15 minutes for the closest medevac. That is if they are not already in the air.

On this Memorial Day weekend, lets' think about the brave men and women, who gave their lives so you could have your freedom.

Think about the families, who gave a son or daughter to that cause and think of all the people who are now free because of the sacrifices that American soldiers have made throughout history, many of them giving their lives for it.

Let's Celebrate Memorial Day for what it stands for and not as a 3 day holiday weekend. - "Garret Watson"
