Does anybody know the actually name of the part I need,
I'm needing to replace the "light socket? " for my back up lights it uses an 1156 size bulb with two wires off it.
I'm having a hard time with this one I have a 1974 f250
What's the serial number (last 6 digits of your VIN)? In '74 Ford changed the design of the tail light mid-year. Before s/n T00,001 the tail light housings were metal and the tail light lens was attached to it by screws. After that serial number the housing and lens was a one piece plastic deal.
In the metal housings the bulb sockets are integral with the housing. On the plastic housings the sockets are separate from the housing and twist into the housings. The sockets for these are an integral part of the wiring harness.
I did a search for the wiring harness for the later serial number.

No dealer or obsolete supplier has one. They used to make replacement sockets that could be spliced in, I don't know whether they're still available or not.
On the early ones the socket is crimped into the housing and, as far as I know, You need to replace the entire housing to repair.
It has the plastic type that twist into the housing.I need to replace the both housing eventually since they have cracks in them.I have a junk yard that I can go and get the socket for my reverse light and replace the broken one with.
thanks for the research and quick reply.
here's a company that makes wiring harnesses. 49.99. probably about the same amount you'd pay if you bought all the wiring and looms etc. comes with the sockets too. if the rubber part of your connector is in good shape, you can splice the new wiring to the rubber connector so you can still plug/unplug easily.
