I personally like tin ceilings. Had a neighbor that used it in their shop and it was galvanized and really helped light things up. You don't have to get the top quality stuff like you would for the walls of a shed. You could also go with white if you don't want to spend the extra money for galvanized. Hopefully some day I can afford to build a nice big shop

Garage ceiling

I am about to finish my attatched garage and wanted some opinions on my ceiling as well. I am going to sheetrock the whole garage. Ceiling and all. I do not want to texture the ceiling because I want to be able to clean it. I have thought about just leaving it flat and painting it with a gloss kitchen or bathroom paint. But I have also wondered what other options there are. Would it be ok to use the steel paneling over the sheetrock? I cannot even picture how this would look but for some reason it just seems like it would be odd. Is there a tile of some sort I could use on the ceiling? This is not going to be a work shop. Just an area for light work, hobbies, and misc stuff. I have a pole shed to use for a shop. I just have to use my garage until I can finish the shed.

Hey derick, how about those fiberglass barn panels like they use in dairy barns. Just glue 'em in place with construction adhesive and caulk the seams. I think they come in a couple of different thicknesses. 1/8" should work with a drywall backer.

Are these the same panels they use in some resturant bathrooms? They are a high gloss finish but still have some texture to them. If so, those actually might be what I use on the walls. Wasn't sure if they would work out on the ceiling. Or how they would look. Thanks for the suggestion.

I have used these fiberglass panels on the walls. They come in 4x8 sheets and I put them on edge. That way when I wash in the winter the walls don't get wet. I sometimes get carried away with the hose.

I would probably just paint the sheetrock, but you need some kind of texture and PVA sealer or you'll see every seam. You could use a wall texture or a knocked down ceiling texture. Eggshell paint is washable and isn't glossy.

Just finished having the ceiling installed - sheetrock it is. The installer smoothed everything and primed it. I am going to paint it gloss white. The walls will come next (soon I hope). I plan to install pre-primed composite panelling for the walls.
