Front end noise

Hey guys,

I've got a '99 F150 with 200k+. I've got a noise that sounds like tire noise, speed related, seems to go away when turning either direction. I just put Bridgestone dueler rh-s on the truck about 6000 miles ago. I rotated the tires and the noise doesn't go away. Its not as noticeable at highway speeds. What do you guys think? Wheel bearing? Front diff??

the "goes away when turning" leads one to believe it is a wheel bearing... this is a 4 x 4 ?

I'm leaning towards a wheel bearing also. On mine I got 150k on the driver side and 200k on the rider side on a 97 f150 4x4. They don't cost to much now, you just have to figure which side it is .

Sure seems like the bearing...Looks like I've got to replace the whole hub. Cheapest I could find was $185. Ouch.

I might regret it, but I used O'reillys house brand. I was a little hesitant.
It was $118 plus tax. Their "premium" brand was $214. All of the other parts stores I checked were 165 for their cheap ones.

I torqued it to 221 ft pounds....We'll see how it long it lasts. Wonder if it will go 200k?? Doubt it...There's a year warranty so what the heck.

Wasn't a bad job if it wasn't for a caliper bolt breaking.

Thanks for the tip guys.

If anyone else has one go out DO NOT use the cheaper "house" brands. Started wobbling and making noise after 500 miles. Swapped with a National hub now. $100 more. You get what you pay for I guess...

First one I paid $155.00 Michigan bearing, and the last one came from O'reilys where my son works, got his discount and it cost $63.00 and it works just fine. !!

The guy at the parts store says they get a lot of warranty claims on the house brand.
