Driving home and I stop at the gas station. I smell burning oil but figure it is the bike that just pulled out. I come back out of the store and still smell it so I look under my rig and I see oil dripping off my rear differential. Oil is still dripping so I figure its ok to drive the last 1/2 mile home.
My abs light has been on for a few months but since I didn't need abs I really wasn't too concerned. Apon further inspection it looks like my rear abs sensor some how came loose and is now missing in action. The hole left let the oil spray out of the top of the differential.
The plan tomorrow is to pick up a new sensor and replace the oil. It would really help if I knew what size/pitch bolt was used to bolt down the sensor and any other info on the rear differential that is available.
the oil should be 75 w 140 full synthetic gear lube... I have had the bolt out before. I think it takes a 9 or 10 mm wrench. That would make it a 4 or 5 mm bolt. If you dont get an answer on the correct size, i would buy 3-4 different small bolts and see which one fits. The bolt should stick thru the pickup about 1/4 inch so you get 4-5 threads into the case.... check the bolt size by sticking it into the probe hole.
This only applies if you have a limited slip axle: add a tube of friction modifier when you add the oil too. While you're in there it wouldn't hurt to check bearings to make sure they weren't burned out Hope everything goes well!
