I just picked up this pickup a couple weeks ago.
the previous owner said it hadn't had a "tune up" (plugs wires rotorcap, etc...) in like 9 years.
I was thinking it would be a good opertunity to get to know my new truck
(maybe clean the engine bay too)
first question,
what all would you do for a "tune up"?
(Plugs, Wires, Dist Cap/Rotor, air filter, timing, carb adjust, coil, ???)
second question,
where do you guys get your parts?
I found this Micro Tech TUNE-UP KIT - JCWhitney for $57.99
what about points?
I'm not familliar with ponts...
upgrading parts while at it...
on my 1991 Bronco 302, I went with a hotter coil, heavier wires (8mm I think), and wider gap in the plugs.
is this worth doing on an old farm truck?
any other suggestions?

if it is a 77 460 in the truck it shouldn't have points in the distributor. should be the Duraspark distributor which is electronic so no points. very good distributor just have to check that the shaft and bushings are not too worn.
just have to change cap and rotor on those distributors and lube the pivot points on the pickup (can't miss it when you take the cap off)

Nine years is a lot of neglect.
Change the fuel filter for sure.
Check that the timing chain isn't sloppy.
Transmission/gearbox, (transfer case if it is 4x4) and differential(s) - fluid change.
Coolant flush.
Power steering flush.
Brake flush.
Inspect & lube steering & front end components.
Inspect & lube universal joints.
Get to know it and show it some love.
It sure would appreciate it.
