what about points?
I'm not familliar with ponts...
upgrading parts while at it...
on my 1991 Bronco 302, I went with a hotter coil, heavier wires (8mm I think), and wider gap in the plugs.
is this worth doing on an old farm truck?
Your truck isn't a points. If I remember right the switched to the Duraspark in 75. There should be a ignition box on the drivers side fenderwell by the hood hinge. When I do a tune up its cap, rotor, plugs, wires, coil, oil, filter, air filter. I would check your timing and depending on the condtion of your carb a rebuild too. Check your antifreeze. It probably needs flushed. Check your brake fluid. I get all my tune up parts from my local Advance Auto Parts. You can get generic or name brand there but the generic works just fine for me. When you replace the wires the autolites they gave me were 8mm and the stock gap is pretty wide on these trucks .044.

glad to hear it shouldn't be points
antifreeze was new last year (along with the water pump)
Front Brakes were done earlier this year (along with all the front bushings)
I havn't had a carb'd vehicle
or even a car I could adjust the timing on in years.
hopefully I can remember how to use the timing light and not shock myself on the dist

LOL Take the thing that goes on the spark plug wire and put it on the number 1 wire. Which on the fords the number one cylinder is the very first one on the passenger side. then hook up the power and ground to your battery. Make sure the timing light is set to zero advance. And plug your vacuum advance. there ya go!
