The machine I used for this was the smaller OTC hand held called the Nemisys but it would not do "dashboards" or the "GTM/CTM" functions until I sent it to a guy about six months ago who upgraded it to 2010 software (had up to 06 on it) but he also sent me the upgrades to do the high end electrical readings. I also had to buy a different cable but not sure if that cable was a must for this kind of thing or just makes it read faster. Any way it is now a much more capable machine. The only beef I still have is they do not do European cars. I see a few in our little shop but mostly avoid them anyway. But as an example we did a rebuild of a 08 Audi A6 V8 Quattro in 2010 that had slid into a wet ditch. I could not even check or clear an airbag light because the OTC machine would not read European. The guy that did the software upgrade said he had a machine he would sell that would do all the work that the machine I have can do - plus European - for a good price but for now I just use this little unit. I had a larger unit that I think was probably similar to the one you have but it was kind of overkill for just reading simple errors and it really ate batteries. The little Nemisys has the habit of killing one battery of the (I think six) in it but I just test them quick and replace the one dead one. But the machine does way more now with the software upgrade I had put in. It works for me...

I have no idea how to do anything on this website. You sent me some PDF files? Where do they go? I also have no idea how to read and help other people that may be writing in about issues I have a lot of experience in. Like how my E4OD gets way too hot when snow plowing. You have sent me good ideas like the library resource and I was grateful someone was nice about this. I try to always help people - especially the older ladies and single Moms my wife drags over - but can I send you a mail that is just to you? Or like the person who asked about my machine (OTC Nemisys) I could send him the guys info who upgraded it but I would rather not do it in a posted letter. I was a little peeved by the whole issue of not having factory manuals. It is easy to look down on someone that does not have them when you are getting them via work and not having to buy them.

But I have been working on aircraft, boats, cars, and motorcycles since 73 and flew fixed wing aircraft from A6 to F14, and helicopters from OH6 to CH53E so I have seen a lot of stuff in my time. I do everything from electronics to engines to custom paint so I do have knowledge to share with others. Thanks for your help on this little truck.

If you go to your 'user cp', button at the top of the page, to the far left side, you can change a some stuff, and read 'personal messages'.{PM's} I sent you one offering to send you some PDF files that were from the tech library site. They were a page each, with block diagrams and base schematics for gizmos hung off the GEM.
Your response to me could have presented an email address for me to post the PDF files, not putting it out here in plain view of scammers and schemers and screen scrapers...
You could have even rigged up a one-time hotmail email id if you wish to remain oblivious. ..[that was a bad pun]
F-14's were coming into service as I was going out. Now they are retired, too. I think the USMC is still flying the SeaKnights we had aboard. Maybe even the same ones...

To: TomW - I tried sending a few messages and they show up as visitor message to you so I am not sure if this is how you do private mail. Please go look at what I sent and see if that is what you were talking about because I am thinking those still are open to anyone - but I do not know.

I don't know, but I think they are not out there for the world to poke around in. I just went back to the user cp and the ones you posted are gone. I'd click on private messages in the left handmost column and send... Dunno what you did last time.
tom
edit: the msgs are not gone, they are 'visitor messages' which are public. I was reading user CP stuff, and that's what they are. Click your name at the top of the screen, and it will show them to you if you have any.
Use the PM thing inside your user CP noted above.

Send a "PM" as the visitor mail is public unless you want to let everyone know your email id.

I am not sure the pictorials are worth a lot as all they give is the pinout for the GEM, basic connections for the door locks, etc. They are not factory. But I'll send them if you want.

Hey - That was what I was trying to tell you is that they did not give me the right to send PM. When I clicked on it in the FAQ it says an administrator may have disabled it. I do not really understand but that is what is says.

Sorry, I hadn't read when I posted... You've got mail. Hopefully a half dozen PDF files. And the visitor msgs are gone.

B1300 and other codes

I have seen others at different websites asking about codes that are listed in the "B" series and just wanted to post this so if someone does a search it might come up and help them. Thanks to the great help at this site I was able to get this cleared up and all is still working. This 02 Escape brought up codes;
B1300 Power door lock coil malfunction
B1302 Accesory delay relay control module malfunction
B1317 Battery voltage high
B1318 Battery voltage low
B1323 Door ajar malfunction
B1352 Ignition key circuit malfunction
B1359 (Forgot to write down meaning)

These codes are all "B" for body and are related to items controlled by the body controls. The newer vehicles have "smart junction box", this vehicle has the earlier Generic electronic module (that when you open it you will find small computer) and nothing in this box is repairable unless you are a computer board tech but you will also have to replace the "bios" or whatever they call the operating system in the box. I replaced the module with a used one that had the exact same numbers and everything works now. Even the remote for the doors would work. In my case I DID NOT need to bring to dealer for activation. May be luck because it came from same year, same type of vehicle, but it worked once the codes are cleared. Most "code readers" will just do the regular power control module codes which are the ones that start with "P" (and thus turn on the engine light) so if you have issues such as no interior lights, windows and locks dead, any issue that involves interior accesories try to find someone with machine that has option to read GEM/CTM codes and any B codes you get are body controller codes. I replaced the module for $50 used and it cured all. Would not have found all this and saved a small fortune if not for help from the good people at this website.
Thanks To All
