Hi everyone, hopefully the subframe I've made will stop chassis twist being transfered into the cab, the cab is mounted to the subframe in the stock locations but sits on 1/4'' thick nylon pads with the bolt, spring ,washer , nut arrangement Ford used. The rear of the cab will sit on the mounts in the crossmember, the front of the cab will be supported by mounts bolted to the chassis, one on each side. The next job will be to fit the cab to the chassis, cut gear lever & hand brake holes, then bolt the hood & fenders together and nut out a tilt front setup...... Regards.
Well, the first thing I noticed is, your steering wheel is on the wrong side!
That's going to take some work putting it back on the left (right) side.
Those mounts that you built look very impressive, considering the originals were a slab of walnut with a slice of rubber between the body floor and the frame. What's the final product suppose to be when you install the mighty cab frame you constructed? It looks too tough for a daily driver. Love to hear the details on this built from down under.
No plans to move the steering wheel, steering wheel on the RHS works well in Australia . I plan to keep this truck and drive it. A bit more progress and I'll take a few more pics on the weekend. Cheers, Steve.
Hi guys, got a bit more done, I spent a few hours on Saturday at wrecking yards looking for a boot that would suit the hand brake lever.... a Ford Raider 4X4 gear lever boot worked OK. There's plenty of room to get the transmission out ,the floor I welded in (HZ Holden) has a much bigger transmission tunnel, won't need a removeable section of floor. I had to shorten the hand brake lever by 1'' as my thumb came too close to the dash panel I fitted when releasing the brake.
I've been on the look out for good looking dash *****, a hot rod shop here has the SoCal range of dash switches , I think I'll run with these.
I feel sorry for the people in the tornado effected areas, 2011 has been hell of a year so far.
Regards to all, Steve.
Nice work so far. I was wondering if you could post pics of how you mounted the subframe to the cab? I want something a little better than the wood and spring method, but not sure I want to go to all the trouble of a sub frame either. Nice use of those CAT bolts to
Gidday guys, John from the top of the chassis flange to the floor is 2 5/8''.
The cab is mounted to the subframe similar to how Ford did, bolt & spring setup, but between the frame & cab I fitted 1/4'' thick nylon , 3''x3'' at the front, 2''x6'' at the centre, 1 3/4''x 8'' at the rear . I'll fabricate something for the mounts at the firewall..... don't know what yet. The turn signal switch is Mack CH, it has hazard, dipswitch, headlight flash and clearance light flash I'll use this for horn.
Starting to think about how I'm going to make a tilt front work.
Regards, Steve.
The pics are of the centre mount.
