I keep frying Tempeture sending units!

I converted the truck from 6 volt to 12 volt. Do I need to reverse the polarity on the temp gauge and sending units as well, or could I have missed the that wire and not hooked it up to my reducer. It is my stock flathead v8 F1. Thanks for any help.
Phil

Seems like it should work as long as it has 6 volts at the gauge. Does the gauge read accurate when it works or read backwards? How long does it work before it burns out?

If you used a 12V sending unit from a 1956 (B6C-10884-A), it was only used in 1956, will not work on any other year.

You didn't say what kind of reducer you have but if you are blowing gauges I am guessing it may just be a dropping resistor. The best way to do it is to get the solid state regulators that bolt onto the back of the gauges and you buy one for each gauge. I've done it and have had good luck with them. Lots of places sell them including lmc truck and fifthaveinternetgarage.

Those electronic reducers are awesome. Have some myself, way cheaper than replacing all the gauges. As for the sender poppin, it sounds like too much voltage getting to it. The power should be coming from source, through gauge, and out to sender, sender is the ground, through the block.
