I recently experienced the wooshy power brake booster on my 86 f150. The brake pedal was still firm and I could brake hard in emergencies if needed but I knew it needed to be replaced.
So I replaced the booster and the master cylinder with re-manufactured ones . (And I bench bled the master cylinder.)
Then I replaced all the bleeder screws and had someone help bleed all the lines.
Now the brakes feel like the power booster isn't there. I went around and re-bled all the lines and even test drove it stopping a little bit here and there and backing up as well. They still feel like they're manual brakes with no booster.
Pull the vacuum hose off the valve (its that l shaped fitting on the booster), attach a clean hose to it, and suck on the hose, you should be able so suck a decent amount of air through it, then try blowing in the hose, it shouldn't allow any air movement in that direction

Tried this. I can suck a little bit of air but definitely can't blow any in.
Decided to remove the hose from the booster altogether and the pedal stayed firm but the stopping power was definitely lacking.
i replaced my booster only to find the reman one was bad also. local parts guy said they have had a bad lot coming out of A-1 Cardone.
Thats becoming rather common it seems, about a year ago, we got a serious of 3 defective steering racks from them for a volvo, just recently we bought a few defective distributors from them, so its no surprise to hear they're making defective brake boosters too
