I've got a 74 f100 with a 300 i6 and a 3spd. It acts like it's not getting enough fuel (spittin' and sputtering), and acts like a condenser breaking down... I've replaced the points, condenser, cap, rotor, plugs, wires, coil, fuel pump, water pump, rebuilt the carb, replaced the fuel filters, reset the timing, but it keeps acting up. The engine only has about 30k miles on it... I'm at my cousins in central Alabama and have to be back in tennessee by Saturday, I have to figure out what's wrong so I can get home... It's got to be something simple but I can't think of anything else it could be, please help!!!!
Firing order is right, set the float level, and all adjustments on the carb are right on the money. I drove it about 16 mi One way earlier today and it did fine but it started on the return trip.... It'll run perfect sometimes but it'll start acting up.
The cap that's on it isn't a tight seal, it just kinda "pops" in. It just started this about a week ago.... I drove it to south Florida a month or so ago with no problems whatsoever.
it could even be sorry gas, i discovered my lawn mower runs like crap anymore after it gets run a while unless you leave the gas cap loose.....these trucks were not made to run on this ethanol garbage!
Well, the inline filters are staying full while it's running and the fuel is clean. But fuel is flowing good, it wasn't yesterday but the new fuel pump cured that...
Where in Central Alabama you located? I am still fighting this same issue with my truck...you could try to run it from an alternate fuel source...I know that Wal-Mart has a boat fuel tank for around $50. (Just a thought). Mine will run perfect from an alternate fuel source, it starts acting just like your describing when I hook it back up to the tank...
Right now I'm in Alexander City, about an 1 1/2 hours south of Birmingham, I've tried gas from several different places and different octaves but no it doesnt help. My cousin has a 5gal can of 101 octane and I put some of that in it and it did the same thing...... I'm starting to think it's haunted lmao!!
