Carb issues, need part numbers

My float is getting stuck and flooding the carb, it is now leaking gas out of the bottom front and rear (directly onto the exhaust manifold in the rear!!).

I either want a brand new carb, or I am going to rebuild it. I need to know the make and part number of the carb, and if someone can point me in the direction of either a new carb or a good rebuild kit, that would be awesome.

here is the important info:

78 f100, 300 straight six, single barrel carb (think its a carter)
vin: F10BUBC5521

Thanks everyone!
(numbersdummy, if you are out there, please help!)

if it is a carter its most likely a yf. i re did one once with a parts house rebuild kit. it was really easy and the kit covered many different variations of the carb. the kit was around $20 bucks in canada about two years ago.

if you find your carb to be unsalvageable there are reman units available (i checked rock auto and they had one for 164 dollars (canadian non emmisions version in cad$)

i have never rebuilt a carb before...im sure i can do it, i am an engineer after all. I really dont want to shell out the 200 bucks that autozone wants for a new one...so i guess im rebuilding it. Autozone's kit is only 11.99. but i need to know the exact carb it has so i can get the right kit...

thats the problem with the chain parts places, is there somewhere close by you that would have the books, and let you look at them? (thats what i had to do) there are likely more than one variation of that carb in 1978 but probably only one kit. hopefully numberdummy will show up and help you narrow it down so that even the autozone robots can find you a kit

I'm hoping he does show up too. What I would really like to do is yank the motor, bore and rinse it, new cam, all new gaskets, and put one of the intakes from 6=8 on it with dual carbs. but that cost some serious $$$$

Im not going to just leave it to Autozone to give me the right kit...been there, done that. Depending on who you get at my local store, some of them know what they are doing, but usually not...

So what do you need to do to get numberdummy's attention on here? lol

ps...i love this damn truck! even if it does act like a toddler every now and again!

Don't go to Autozone for a rebuild kit. Get it from Napa. Give them the list number from the carb (stamped into the casting on a Carter) and they will cross-reference the exact kit.

Thanks for the advice fmc400.

Got another question. When I take this carb off, I'd like to take the EGR valve off too. Will the carb bolt right up to the intake without the EGR valve?

You need to reinstall the EGR spacer plate (and valve) in between the carburetor and intake, along with new gaskets. Do some searching around the forum, and you will find that it's not a good idea to remove the EGR system.

I assume since this truck is in Indiana, it does not have CA emission. But if the DSO code on the Warranty Plate is either 71 or 72, none of the following is correct.

In the future, please list the trans type. It'll make it one a heck of a lot easier when looking up part numbers. Since you didn't, I had to list 3 different carbs, one used for each type of trans.

The carb ID tag is shaped like a triangle, bolts to the airhorn. Since you didn't make any mention of it, I assume it's missing by now (which is common).

Carb tag ID number: D8TE-BVA = Ford part number: D8TZ-9510-BV .. 1V Carter Carburetor (Motorcraft CA-1907).

Application: 1978 F100 300 I-6 3 speed M/T except CA emission.
--------------------------------------------------------------
Carb ID tag number: D8TE-BWA = Ford part number: D8TZ-9510-BW .. 1V Carter Carburetor (Motorcraft CA-1908).

Application: 1978 F100 300 I-6 A/T except CA emission.
------------------------------------------------------
Carb tag ID number: D8TE-CKB = Ford part number: D8TZ-9510-CK .. 1V Carter Carburetor (Motorcraft CA-1911).

Application: 1978 F100 300 I-6 with 4 speed M/T except CA emission.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
D8PZ-9A586-H .. 1V Carter Carburetor Kit (Motorcraft CT-1194). Use with all the above carbs.
