My dad just bought an '04 f250 6.0 w/ 82,000 mi. The truck looks to have been very well taken care of and all commonly maintained parts are motorcraft. Also appears to have been kept all stock. He says it will occasionally surge while sitting at a stop. It did not do it when I drove, but I did feel a surge while maintaining a constant speed (about 50 mph). Has anyone else experienced this?
I have a 7.3 and have it pretty well figured out, the 6.0 appears to be a very different animal.
I would vote to pull the egr valve and check it.....I have had ones do that and found them clogged and the o-rings damaged on them. Easy to get too but sometimes it takes a little persuasion to get it out of the hole if its clogged with carbon.
i had the same exact problem with 04 6.0. it would happen while sitting at a light. suddenly it would rev and jump forward. i had it in the shop several times. of course it would never do it at the shop for them and there were no codes. one day it started doing it while sitting at the light in fron of the dealership. i pulled right into the service drive, left it in gear and engaged the parking brake. the service guy came out and saw what it was doing and had one of their techs come out. finally they changed the wiring harness and its been good for over 2 years.
I had surging at around 1500 to 1700 on highway and at iddle, it was my IPR that had debris in. The engine was stalling at times.
I also had and still sometimes have misses at iddle, I touch the wires and was ok for 1000 miles, then once in a while it does it, probably a wire like dawiz said.
