Should I replace the IPR or the ICP or both? Help!
Ok, I changed the ICP sensor about a year and a half ago. Then I performed the EGR delete and Oil Cooler rebuild. Shortly after that, I began experiencing surging and a complete engine shut-down. After some very helpful insight from the forum, I replaced the IPR valve about a year ago and all was well. Until recently, now the random surging has begun again. There have been several instances where, if I had been little slower fully depressing the break, I would have rearended the vehicle in front of me. Then I pulled in from work one day, turned the wheel and mashed the break and the truck cut-off. Following this, everything seemed to clear-up. Then, the surging returned and, while waiting on a train, the truck surged hard and died. It did start right back up and ran normal. From past experience, it appears to be doing the exact same thing it did before I changed the IPR last time. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance!

Ok, the truck only acts up in the heat of the day after it has reached operating temperature. Any ideas. . .? Is it the IPR or the ICP or something else?
Is the ICP sensor (not IPR valve) under the turbo or on the passenger side valve cover? If it's under the turbo that's what I'd say it is, but you really need to get a diagnostic done to be sure. Have you code scanned it?
It is an '03 build so the ICP is under the turbo. I replaced the sensor (ICP and IPR) as well as the pigtail about a year ago. No, I haven't had it scanned yet. The last time it happened, the ICP triggered the CEL but the truck ran fine. When the IPR went out, it was very noticeable (surging, lurching, RPM fluctuations, shut downs . . . the same thing it is doing now).
Will a local parts store ODB-II pick up the trouble code related to any of these issues (ICP, IPR, EBP, etc) or will I need to take it in to have the code read and cleared? The issue randomly occurs and only typically happens while either driving or sitting still at a light. It has only acted up once sitting still in the parking lot.

Autozone should be able to read the codes. You can clear them yourself by disconnecting the battery cables for 10 minutes with the light switch on.
Autozone could not read any codes since a CEL was not present.
The weird thing is, the truck has not acted up again since before my last posting. Any ideas?
Should I proceed with changing the ICP sensor just in case?
The worst issue I had was while parking the truck and it cut off. I restarted it and it idled up and down and sputtered a few times. I gave it some fuel and it spewed a black cloud out the tailpipe.
I am open to ideas / suggestions as to what to replace / do at this point.
