I have opportunity to buy a 2000year, F250, 4x4, 137,000miles crew cab, V10, auto, 1owner, all for $8,200.
Just happen to pull into Ford dealer and said what is the cheapest used F250 or F350 you got. He said the only reason this one is this cheap was because they just got it and didn't clean it yet, but would if I wanted it. There was some sort of animal hair in back seat and floor. While test driving it I went to open center console and salesman said wait a minute what are you doing? I said I'm gonna look in here. He said I don't know if I want you to because whatever comes out of there this truck may not be big enough for all 3 of us. OMG I laughed. There was hay and a beer can in bed.
He claimed an old couple owned it and traded it in while writing a check for 2 new King Ranch fords, paid in full. I would like to hope it was well taken care of.
I bought my 03 F250 SC Long bed v10 Fx4 with 115000 for $5600, and its in good condition! KBB says $13xxx....but I got a steal! haha. Get it cleaned up. How did it drive? Sounds like it was a farm truck.
Definately get a Carfax, maybe try and get the previous owners name some how and you could contact him. Wouldn't hurt to try

Yea, I think KBB said retail was under $11K. Did the carfax already and where he told me the people was from was sure enough right. It is dusty and dirty, but I would like to think that the old people who had it took care of it. Body is straight. In fact I dont even remember a scratch. The inside was dirty with crap all over the place, but no rips in seats or anything. I think there might have been a small piece of plastic cracked or missing here or there inside.
Other option is a 1995, F350, 4x4, 7.3 turbo power stroke, with 245,000 miles, auto, nice rims, big bumpers, tool box, winch, got a car fax on it also. Just dont want to give $7,000 for it. The winch is nice addition, but worries me due to possible abuse and needed winch.
A lot of people have a winch just for looks. A quick inspection would probably tell you how well it was used.
As gas prices climb, I'd look for the value of the V-10 to drop. It happened last time fuel prices shot up and then pricing rebounded when fuel went down. If it's a long term investment, I'd just be sure to find one that was well taken care of. If you're trying to find the best deal, you might consider waiting a bit and see what fuel prices do.

Even for a dirty truck, that is a steal where I live. I got my truck a year ago for under $8,000. I had been looking for about 6 months and they were in the $12,000 and up price range. Mine fits my needs PERFECTLY, including the V10, so I will probably never sell it. I do have a friend who would give me $10,000 any day though.

Very true. Just like they don't need those huge bumpers, but they buy them and have to do something about the whole made for a winch.
I'm pretty sure I'm going with the 2000 model. Dealer supposed to call me in the morning. Probably more like late morning after they inspect it. Gas vs. Diesel really doesn't matter to me. I would like diesel just because I drive a big rig for a living, but 4 door, 3/4 ton, 4x4, I don't expect any fuel mileage. The gas is probably smarter in case wife drives it so she does not accidentally put gas in the diesel tank. I cannot afford that kind of entertainment.
My uses for it will be back up family vehicle, pulling trailers such as live stock, flatbed, camper / travel trailer and just another vehicle. I sold my last 2 pickups trying to help friends out which are no longer friends so we wont do that again. Other than that it will probably just sit most of the time. I wouldn't think at the most it would move is 10 days a month on average.
IF it truly is a farm/ranch truck you need to figure the mileage x2 to understand the true wear and tear on the truck. I'd call BS on his story about how it was traded just because of the nature of car salesman.
