I had my upper intake replaced and now I have tapping sound but does not go away after idling for a few minutes. I'am puzzled. Can someone please help.
[QUOTE=pdqford;10227949]Who replaced the upper intake? (I'd give them a chance to comment on that noise based on what work they performed.)[/QUOTE
Some shop my uncle took it to. They don't seem to have much to say besides they don't know what it could be. I was wondering if the timing could possibly be off or something not set to correct specs. They did check the heads on the side easy to access and said they were fine. I don't know what to do next.
Does not. There is no shaking. It sounds smooth except for that. They tried replacing the gasket but it still leaked but when they started it up it did not have that tapping. But after they replaced the intake itself the tapping and white smoke from the tail pipe that stopped after letting it idle.
Hmm, if it weren't running smooth I would wonder if they dropped something down in one of the intake ports that is holding one of the intake valves open.
Personally I'd take it back and tell them there was no tap when I brought it in, or was there, and fix it right. Why did you have the intake replaced anyway??? Sounds like a misaligned gasket somewhere.
There was no tapping at first. Just a little steam from the hood when I parked it. I drove and noticed that it was spluttering so I drove it to my mom house and parked it. After I parked it I raised the hood and notice just a little steam. I didn't see any water or anything leaking. So a day later I drive to my uncle house and it was missing really bad. They looked at it and said the upper intake gasket needs to be replaced. They did the gasket and it was running good but still leaking water so they replaced the intake itself but it now has a tapping sound. Also, there was white smoke but the smoke went away. Someone suggested that they tear the motor down but I don't know what to do.

Even a little steam is not good.

Was the coolant level down? And was the oil level down?

Missing really bad sounds like it may have had coolant in the combustion chambers. You may have warped a head and lost a head gasket. Does there appear to be any coolant showing on the oil dip stick? (Oil that looks like coffee?)

That was the upper intake gasket they replaced?

With no missing or spluttering?
And no tapping sounds?

Tapping sound started right after they put the new upper intake manifold on?
Maybe like alloro said: maybe they spilled a bunch of coolant down an intake port and when they went to crank it over it hydro locked and bent a rod??

The catalytic muffler probablly got a load of coolant in it and after the cat got hot the coolant evaporated and the white smoke stopped. (Cats don't like antifreeze.)

Probably ought to go back to basics and start with a compression check to see if there is any internal mechanical damage.
