Tapping sound
I developed this tapping sound from the engine it comes and goes sounds like a valve once the sound starts it dont stop untill its restarted, then will go for awile then start again, sometimes it doesnt do it at all. 1990 V6 any thoughts

Try to identify the cylinder by listening with a hollow metal tube or something like a dowel rod. Pull the plug and compare it to the ones next to it. Pull the valve cover and take a look. You may end up pulling the head to have a shop perform a valve job. I would recommend doing both heads if you have to get a valve job.

When I lived in Maine, my Buick V8 developed a tap from the last rocker arm to receive oil on a cold start up. That was with less then 25k miles on a new engine. The repair was a new rocker for the valve train and a valve cover gasket. Like the other posts, you will have to get in there and take a look once you locate which cylinder is tapping.
