My steering wheel squeaks when turning and it drives me crazy. I'm tired of turning up the radio up so I don't hear it lol. I have been told that there is a bearing in there that it known for causing that. Is it possible to grease it up or should I just replace it? Is it difficult to do or do I risk messing up my air bag wiring or anything else? If anyone has experiance with this and could give me some advice I would appreciate it.
There are a couple bearings in the steering column. If they are squeaking, they are probably already done.. Does your steering wheel move up and down a little bit?
The parts are available from Ford if you want to try just changing the bearings, but when I tried to do it, mine had a messed up shaft also, so I had to change the whole column.. So, I didn't get to finish trying it to be able to tell you how it's done. It IS a PITA though, I promise you that.
I have a squeak when it's cold, but it goes away once things warm up a little. It was driving me nuts too and it sounded like a spring that was about to pop. I did a little research on here and this is one of the posts I found that gave me an idea of what might be going on. You can read this and search from there.
