ok well i noticed over the weekend that i had some smoke from oil dripping out of my passanger side valve cover onto my exhaust.. what i was wondering is can i just try tightening down the valve cover for a while? or do i need to replace the gasket?
You can try, Micah............gently, too much torque will just split the gasket and make it worse.
Best bet is to throw on a new set of Fel-Pro neoprene rubber gaskets, piece of cake job (unless you have AC).....2.8s and 2.9s are bad about leaking valve covers, the rubber ones help, just do not over torque them, and use the spreaders that go with the bolts.
Owning a 2.8 or a 2.9 is a experience in oil leak chasing.........If it isn't valve covers, its crank main seals, both problems that can be stopped if you know the secrets.
well i know its coming from the valve cover area lol..i need to clean the engine good too and see if i can spot any more leaks..
although i do not leave any oil spots in the ground anywhere..also nnoticed im about to roll over on my odometer soon..im sure its the original dash and am thinking that it may only now be hitting 100k...it runs too well to be at 200k and it hasnt been rebuilt either
