Help w/ Hose Part #

I had a coolant leak that I traced back to what I think is the heater hose coming off a junction from the hose below the coolant reservoir. A bolt head wore thru the hose. I took a couple pics:

This one shows the junction - it is the hose that goes back towards the firewall

This shows the same hose towards the back of the engine where it bends up and goes across behind the engine. The arrow is actually pointing right at the bolt head that wore thru the hose.

Does anyone have the part # or reference name so I figure out where best to buy it?

Thanks.

It's one of your heater hoses.

That is your heater core outlet hose. Assuming this is for a 2004 Excursion equipped with a 6.0L, the correct part number is 3C3Z-18472-BB if it's without auxillary heat-A/C. If it's equipped with auxillary heat-A/C the part number is 3C7Z-18472-AA.

Perfect - thanks alot for the #'s. Just to confirm, by auxillary heat-A/C, do you mean the rear unit? If so, I do have it.

Yes, that is the exact illustration that appears in Microcat for Excursion applications. Unfortunately, it doesn't clearly illustrate the hose you describe, so I looked it up for a 2004 F-Series Super Duty truck just to clarify the hose you described, and then looked it up for an Excursion to come up with the two choices listed above.

I was checking the hose this am (as I was adding more coolant), and it does not look exactly like the diagram. There is a metal tube that the heater core hose connects to which runs behind the motor, then changes back to a rubber hose before connecting to the core.

It may not be an issue, but what concerned me more was that the end of the hose connected to the metal tube did not have a hose clamp, but more of a pressed fitting.

The diagram shows the same fittings on each end of the hose (#8287), but that's not the case with mine.

Can that pressed fitting be dealt with using "normal" tools, or should I just bring it to a dealer?

m-chan68 - thanks a ton for taking the time to double check this for me. I had looked at the diagram before posting and just wasn't sure. I appreciate you taking the time.

Just talked to the local Ford dealership. The parts guy said it is only available in the complete assembly to the tune of $166.00!

Crud, seems like alot for 1 hose w/ a hole in it. Maybe I should just try splicing in a new section of hose where the hole is...

Coolant Leak in Excursion 6.0 w 208K Miles

Hi guys sorry for the LATE response, traveling too much.

My original leak turned out to be the "Y" in the heater hose just before it goes into the the fire-wall (left side). The dealer wanted $288 for the "complete" hose that included a new heater control valve and $200 to install it! Sorry but I didn't have the $. So I cut out the Y at the hose ends and replace it with 3 brass bard fittings using clamps and a NPT metal valve from the local machine shop for $14.00 total. The black compression rings on the hoses were a real pain to get off. Ford didn't do us any favors there! That solved the problem on that side of the engine.

2 months later ANOTHER coolant leak reappears on the RIGHT side of the engine at the back of the block.... Looks like its running off the heads and onto the block then on the ground. Only leaks after running the engine a while and makes a big coolant puddle over time. Adding 1/2 gallon every 2 weeks now and if I top off the degas bottle the puddle only gets BIGGER. I can NOT find the source but the X still runs great, nothing in the oil and no smoke at start or while running. The hose in the picture could be the problem, I'll check it next week and get back to everyone? Could it be the H2O pump leaking and running back on the heads and block? No signs of any leaks in the front of the block..... ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT.... Thanks Guys.

Hey diesel 04x your coolant leak thats running off the back of the block might be the EGR cooler hose it connects oil cooler and egr cooler together.

Not sure I "picture" your description. Are you saying the passenger side is the "right side"? That is the proper way to describe it - from the perspective of sitting in the drivers seat.

Check to see if your hose is touching the oil cooler in the same place as my 2nd pic w/ the red circle and black arrow. That's where the bolt head wore thru my hose.

I ended up having a local mechanic cut off the metal tube where the hose connected to at the rear of the motor (using some kind of ford/aircraft/hydraulic fitting), and just use a hose-clamp w/ a new hose. Works great, and avoided the $190 hose assembly from Ford.

Hi guys, the original leak was on the right (passenger) side and it has gone away. I thought it was the egr tube originally but that's not it, she's bone dry.

The leak I'm working on now is coming from the left (driver) side of the block and you can see the coolant stains between the head and the block running the length of the engine.

I'll look at the hose and let you know what I find. All ideas are welcomed.

Thanks very much!

I found the exact same issue today as Diesel 04X found. Hose chaffing on the back drivers valve cover stud. Big chaff area (size of my pinky) and a pinhole. Easy fix with a tire wrap if you know in advance. I will be splicing mine in some way. No way am I paying $200.00 for the hose assy.

Y fitting on the passenger side

This y fitting on the passenger side (back near firewall) is a real pain. Does anyone know the OD so I can look up where to get some sort of parts. Does anyone have a couple recommendations and where they got them? I know the water is very hot and about 15 psi.

Thanks!
Jon
