Compression test!

yup!

I did a buzz test and from what I can remember from the KOEO test is that injector 8 had low voltage.

Then the cylinder contribution test (CCT I just learned) showed that cylinders 2,4, and 8 had low contribution.

So I am leaning more towards a bad Valve cover gasket ( is that UVCH?). I did see that the UVCH has shims that one can obtain from ford... $15 bucks a piece!!! The Valve Cover Gasket on that cylinder bank was a bit corroded, and it had a loose ground. This corrosion was outside the valve cover, in the male and female plugs as some green, mild corrosion. I took everything apart and cleaned it well. I soldered the ground back together on the pig tail that goes to the main wire harness... the female connecter outside the valve cover. This pig tail is not OEM. It has been installed before I got the truck. I found the pigtail to be long and have wire menders in line. But there were no burnt areas.

i also OHMed the connections in the harness and found # 2 to be a bit touchy. When I moved it around, it would not read any resistance. But that had nothing to do with #8. # 8 OHMed out fine...?!? And this is the injector throwing the code...!

OK... so the harness is definitely sub-par! and will be replaced. But I think that it may be more than this...

There is a slight chance... a very SLIGHT chance... That I got the # 8 injector mixed up and put in the wrong cylinder. I took all the Electric solenoids off each injector head, and laid them out on the bench. It's easier than getting a 8mm wrench under the plug for the top shoulder bolt.. (for me, anyway!). The guys at DW Diesel who sold me the injectors down in Oxford, Ma. told me that #8 injector had less fuel pressure to take away the "injector cackle". But I am mostly sure that this injector made it into it's #8 place. Just info to know...

But why would #8 buzz so much less than the others? It seems to me that the AE #8 is mechanically different than the others, and should buzz just as loud as the others?!?

The shims are the same thing as the 50 cent mod which means you can do the same thing with 2 quarters. Search 50 cent mod

Ya I tried the CPS recall three years ago. I installed the "new" one that ford recommended, and my truck ran like dung! I put the old one in and it was running fine for many years. Thanks for that web link! Great info!!

The top injector hold down bolt doesn't need to be removed or even loosened to pull an injector. All you need to do is remove the bottom hold down bolt and push the hold down collar back and lift it to clear the top hold down bolt. Once the injector is out then loosen and retorque the top hold down to 120 in/lbs. That's the only time that hold down bolt needs to be touched when doing an injector R&R.

Did the solenoid on #8 say AE and/or LL? That is the designation for a long lead injector.

Wow. Thanks for the tip!!! Never knew that!

Ya it's definitely an AE number 8. It sounds about half as loud as the others during a buzz test.

About to put on some new valve cover gaskets. I'll start there I guess.

Anyone know why #8 would buzz less? It shouldn't, right?

whats the largest tire I can run on a stock F350 Dually?

Was thinking about running 265/75's anybody every done this? Does it affect anything?

Looking for a slightly wider tire and alot more tread patterns to choose from.

What do you recommend other than the stock tire size?
