I have the 03 and there have been very few of those egr coolers blow I may just use a sneaky pipe or something op said to weld it IDK its still good
as far as the coolant filter I have had 1 plug when I cut it open there was a little casting sand but not what I thought I would find
When you say you had 1 plug you mean it stopped the flow if so and it was not from the sand it has to be from the other junk in the coolant if so what do you think it is doing to the coolers.

dieselpop-thanks for all the info. Unfortunately, I just had a coolant flush 1 month ago w/motorcraft gold! It sounds like you recommend another prior to pulling the oil cooler?

Yes i do, you need a clean system if you are going back with new parts because you have a cooling system that is full of junk from the Ford Gold coolant. If you change out your coolant every 30-50k non pulling miles you can stick with the Gold junk but if you pull under high heat this coolant can't take it the silicates drop out so why not go with a coolant that will go 300k before you have to look at it then add a rejuvenator to the coolant then go another 300k total 600k. If i change my coolant every 30k because i pull that means i will have to change it 10 times in the 300k and still may have a system that is screwed up, why.

There's a fella who has tried (with success) a reverse flush on an oil cooler with everything on the truck. What he basically did is remove the cap on the coolant outlet side of the oil cooler. This is the cap right where the EGR cooler hose connects to the oil cooler. He then fabricated an elbow to snugly fit in the cooler opening and connected the other end to a hose and simply ran water through the cooler. This is certainly worth a shot as the parts and labor to do this are close to free. I suspect with higher oil temps that an oil cooler replacement is in order though. I bought my last oil cooler from Tousley Ford for just under $200 and it included the metal screen.
hey do you by chance have some instructions on doing a reverse flush?

Now if a person were to do the reverse flush trying to get the GOLD GOO out of the oil cooler. One would think about rigging up a small pump to pump a mixture of Restore mixed in hot water in a bucket, then do as the person said they did, and pump the Restore mix through the oil cooler. That way the Restore could melt the GOLD GOO out first.
Never heard that it has been tried, but hey, might be worth a try.

It wasnt gooy either almost clean just some grit it had been in almost 1 year the

this thread is pushing me to deleate the egr
Just remember if you get that Gold junk out and your system is clean you have one of the better egr cooler way better than the 05-07 they will take a lot more heat better design.

ya I have a new oil cooler and want to flush it out really good before I put it on I think i should use the restore plus then flush IDK I just want it clean
should I use the restore for silicate dropout even though I dont see any goo on my coolant filter or when I flushed plus the egr is unplugged so I dont get the flow of extreme exhaust temps causing the coolant breakdown
when I did the flush last year just grit and rusty water and the vc-9 did a great job of getting rid of the rust once I pulled the thermistate and ran it at high idle
Last year when I did the vc-9 I I couldnt find any zerox g05 think thats what it was so I did stick with ford premium gold this time Im going with something diffrent
