99 Explorer Air Bag Code 36
Is this something anyone can fix?
If anyone can tell me what this code is and what would be involved in fixing it, I'd really appreciate it.
It's a 99 Explorer XLT.
Driver Side Air Bag Circuit Shorted to Ground or
Driver Side Air Bag Circuit Shorted to Battery or Ignition or
Driver Side Air Bag Circuit Resistance High or
Driver Side Air Bag Circuit Resistance Low
If you take it to get it checked they would hook up a scan tool and retrieve codes from the Restraint Control Module. These codes would narrow it down to which of the 4 possibilites you have.
The manual says it's for a driver SIDE airbag which I've never seen on an 99 Explorer but maybe it's an American thing

I've seen other vehicles with the side airbag though that someone had kicked the connector under the seat and it came apart. I think I'd look for disconnected wires there first.
Found the problem I think - loose connector under the drivers seat. Looks like my washer fluid bottle rolled under there, or someone kicked it, or just dirt. Basically wiggled and tightened the plug, and poof no more blinking light.
And even better - 100 bucks more + for me, and not a Ford dealer.
