I have a 98 Explorer 4.0 V6 and the check engine light came on. AutoZone read the code and it is P1715 "SSB Inductive Signature Malfunction". I have searched this site and others and can find no more info on this code. Can anyone tell me what "SSB Iductive Signature" is and how I can fix the malfunction?
I have done some more Internet searching and found out that the Inductive Signature Circuit monitors the shift solenoids of the transmission. Other than that, I am still clueless if this is a big problem.
The transmission seems to shift normally. I reset the Check Engine light (the shade tree way by removing the battery cable) and it has not come back on yet.
Again, has anyone else had any experience with this trouble code?
Larry, my code book says: "1715 Transmission Fluid Pressure Solenoid Faulty"
This is also known as the EPC solenoid (Electronic Pressure Control). Since the code hasn't returned, maybe the solenoid momentarily stuck? I would try changing the fluid and watch it for awhile.
The EPC solenoid can be changed with the transmission in place, if necessary.
Thanks for the information. I checked the fluid level and it was where it should be and the color looked fine. I have about 40,000 miles on this fluid, so changing is probably a good idea. Thanks again.
