1) Probably. Bell to trans pattern will be the same. (Ford "butterfly" pattern). Input shaft length would be the only question. The T170 may have used the car input length, a bit shorter than the T18. If so, a "truck" bell, probably from where ever you are getting the T18.
Info:
The Borg-Warner T18 & T19 Transmissions - Novak Conversions

2) The year of the T18 does not matter as long as you are after '66 or so, to make sure of the bell to trans pattern. And condition is more important than age--although age certainly can drive condition.

As for trans to TC, you may need a different adaptor with the T18, but if you get one out of a 4x4, you may get the proper adaptor with the trans.

What TC do you have?

As long as the clutch disc splines match the input shaft, and you confirm the input shaft lengths are the same, you current clutch set up will work.

Does your T170 bolt directly to the TC, or is there a short tailshaft housing or adaptor?

What is the model of your TC?

Any numbers on the adaptor or tc? Seems like there would be only a couple possibilities for the TC.

Choices listed here:

Rebuilt Ford Transfer Cases 12 month warranty no hassel.! - Drivetrain.com

1345 pic:

1345 Transfer Case Borg Warner Parts Illustration and parts list! - Drivetrain.com

NP 208F:

Once you id the TC, it will be easier to search for an adaptor.

It is also possible that bumping this to the top and putting all these links in here will attract someone with first hand TC knowledge to save the day.

I did a search and found a couple of comments that indicate you do not need an adaptor. The trans bolts directly to the TC.

I find the T18/1345 combo referenced several places, so it is possible it works that way.

Pull it apart and try it....

What that tells us is the adaptor for a 1350 should work also. You can search for that. As far as I can tell, this is going to be a junkyard item.

Close as I can come right now:
