Jason-I guess to each his own. But when it comes down to it, when you are pushing a turbo at the line, or over on its map, it will live much longer with the wastegate, that is adjusted correctly and working properly.
The wastegate "blowing off" is doing exactly what it is designed to do, manipulate drive pressure to allow the turbo to spool quickly yet not get so excessive with drive pressures that it shortens the life of the turbo.
Either way, disconnecting the red line or not, there is not much at all to be gained. The stock turbo is so small, and it can easily be pushed out of its map with a tuner or chip, as well as the drive pressures.
Cory I guess you are right. If you have it adjusted properly then you dont need to disconnect the red line. I guess people tell others to do it as a quick fix for a little more boost without messing with the actuator rod.

Well I mean I can understand, I've messed with the actuator rod with the turbo on the truck and its a SOB. But I know how high drive pressure ratios effect the motor, and I dare to say that at any more than 30psi on a stock turbo is atleast 2:1 if not a good bit more.
Yeah I do my best to keep mine under 30. I need to get back in there and re adjust my rod so I dont go over 30, but I have had other things to do and I can always watch my gauge.
There was a T5 with tunes on it on Oklahoma craigs list today for $300 it said it was only 3 months old. If you scroll down you might see the thread. Looks like a good deal to me. Its about 30 min away from me.
Thank you Jason. I am looking for something with different tunes though. Guess ill just have to shell out the big bucks for a custom burnt one.
Call Jody and ask him what it would cost to get different tunes put on there. You might still save money going that route. Although it would be nice to have the F6
