How many here actually drive your trucks?
I know we are a bunch of builders, most on a tight budget. I seldom see older trucks being driven around my part of the country. For those whose trucks are driveable, just wondering, how many of you drive your trucks on a regular basis? How many miles have you put on it? When was it driveable/finished?
My 53 "Someday" made it's maiden voyage around the block in 5/08 and I have enjoyed every on of the 24K miles I've put on it since. I might even tear it apart someday to finish the bodywork and paint Maybe

Jeff, I was doing pretty good at driving mine even though its a long way from being finished. Then about a year and a half ago my insurance lady screwed up an canceled my policy on that truck, I wasn't driving it much at the time so I let it go, then the registration expired, then I got busy with other stuff......

I have 2 trucks. 1960 f350 and a 77 f250. The f250 has non-comm plates and the 60 has historical plates. I put almost 1,000 miles on the 60 this year, just going to truck club functions. My brother and I share the f250 and probably put close to 1,000 miles on it between us this year, for a couple shows and some normal everyday driving.

I drive my '59 F100 regularly through the summer. It is as I bought it. Just repaired to be a good driver. Not fixed up at all.
My late model daily has a cover on the back so the '59 gets used for all the hauling that the cover get in the way of.
The '52 F3 has historic plates on it and I haven't driven it but plan to this summer. Maybe driving it will inspire me to work on it some.

When I get my 51 built I'm planning on driving it daily, It is a truck that has a lot of good parts (all metal no fiberglass) and could be a show winner type truck but I don't have the cash for that. My dad has a show winning type vehicle and it rots in the garage and is driven maybe once a year...maybe. I could spend a fortune on the paint and little body work it needs but I plan on painting it myself and leaving the little dents where there at to give it its character....Its a truck, I want to drive my truck and use it, maybe I'm weird but thats how I want it. Now If I can get the time to put it together haha

Mine is not a daily driver as it was first back on the road in late '01 after a 10 year build. We've got 25000 on the clock now and it obviously sits in the garage alot. The 2 main reasons we don't drive it 'often' are the very reasons that I like it so much. I spent 'WAY' too much $ on the body & paint and it sets a bit "2lo".
We took it out yesterday to a relatively small yearly event here in SoCal. A group of about 50 or so car guys meet at a Sears parking lot in the east end of Pasadena, have a lilttle show, and then take a cruise down the parade route (Colorado Bl.) & check out the happenings of folks getting ready for todays parade.
We like to take it on long trips though. Our longest so far was to Salina, KS. for the Leadsled Spectacular in July of this year. We do put a 'bra' or mask on the front which has really helped protect the paint over the years. But it's starting to show the road miles anyhow, with a number of flying objects taking out bits of paint here and there.

My 54 F250 was driven farely often up until about 1 1/2 years ago when it was torn apart to get the body redone. It has been lanquishing since then. I really need to get after it this winter.
The 48 was a project truck that needed total redo and isn't drivable. I probably need to sell it.
The 78 Bronco is mostly for off road stuff and gets driven about once a month to the local ORV area and abused for a day.

My 55 F250 was parked in the early 70's. I finally got a hold of it in 2003. I started working on it then my daughter was born (my third child) so the truck sat and then the city said I had to move it. Now that we have a garage I have started working on it again. When it is complete, I plan on driving it regularly. It probably won't be a daily driver but close and I plan to work it too.

My daily work commute involves putting about 23,400 miles on every year. That's a lot of miles dodging deer, snowstorms, and other drivers. In 5 years time I'll put on over 100,000 miles, so whatever I drive has to be efficient and long lasting. But it's no fun looking like everyone else out there on the road, now is it? That's why I like the idea of the restomod. My F1 is not a restomod, but my IH KB2 will be. The F1 will be a restored (not a 5 star by any means) pickup, as well as my Uncle's F6. Everything else will come afterward.

That's what got me started with my chassis swap I wanted the strength, dependability and parts availability of a newer truck. But the look of the 50's truck.
The way I figure if I'm investing all this time and money on it I want to get as much use and enjoyment out of it as I can. I just can't see storing it away for over half of the year every year. That's the reason I'm going 4x4.
If something/damage happens while I'm driving it then I'll fix it.
