I have an 81 F100, I love my truck but I have a massive amout of vacuum leaks...Lots of little hoses most have been melted or plugged before I got the truck. I want to go and fix all of the lines and was wondering if there was a site or a store to buy all the lines. Also was wondering what manual Chiltons etc.. would be best to use for fixing my truck up?
I am really down on emissions junk right now, having a bad experience with my truck. My easy solution to everybody's vacuum line troubles is an aftermarket carb (holley makes a 2bbl with ford kickdown linkage) or small aftermarket 4bbl and new intake manifold. If you want to go the proper original emissions route, this is some of what you have to do.
Find the right diagram. This will be on your radiator support, or you will have to find what calibration version your engine has, and hope one of the diagrams on autozone's website matches, or I guess you could try the Ford dealer to see if you can get the right diagram. There are some guys on this site with alot of the diagrams too.
So you finally got the right diagram. What does it all mean? You can go to this site http://www.motorera.com/ and click on automotive definitions and find some of the abbreviations, but try to go buy some of this stuff in the store! And if you have to go to the dealer, make sure to bring plenty of money.
If you get it all hooked up and it works, congratulations, please hang around here and help some of us out.
I will be the first one to applaud anybody who wants to get their truck hooked up correctly and original. Maybe somebody will reply to your post who can really help you figure it out.
post your calibration # and i can give you the exact diagram, though it will be in black and white. At the dealer, you have to buy hose cut from bulk and repair your own.
I may have spoke too soon. I can only go back to 88 on my electronic diagrams but i do have the 83 calibration book and you may have a carry over calibration.
