Yes on mine i removed the nipple in the hub and installed stainless plugs with pipe sealant. I then removed the hard vacuum line that runs across the frame and up to the vacuum pump and plugged the end with a stainless bolt
Yea then after a few months the cap rots and you A: get dirt/water into the knuckle
B: cap lets air into the vacuum system and causes defrost only and other issues
Not here to argue, but no need to go through all of that extra work, caps I have , lasted well over 20 years.
Pick the thickest rubber from the parts bin.
Better yet, I usually source these from a pick and pull.
Ive bought ones from napa and advanced auto and my local mom and pop store. They all cracked within months so i said screw that and bought two stainless plugs for 60cents each and a little pipe sealant and four years still going
