Hey everyone, just thought I would share my story with this issue since I'm sure some of you have dealt with and might be currently dealing with it. Had my truck two weeks and had barely driven it and the O/D light started blinking. I did some research and it's either a bad tranny or TFT sensor. Well the guy I had bought it from babied this truck and never hauled anything and always took it in when it needed service of any type. Hell, this truck was never dirty for more than an hour before he took it to be detailed Anyway, I check all fluids and it's about a quart and a half low on tranny fluid. Well tranny fluid just doesn't disappear so I add and call the dealership about warranty work.
Thank god I still have some left. They took the truck and after a diag and taking the casing off they discover a snap ring that came apart and metal shavings all through the tranny. Needed a replacement they tell me. So I ask a million questions, and to make a long story short, this issue has nothing to do with how it was driven or poor maintenance. It's just one of those things that happen they tell me. They ended up replacing the whole tranny for a non Ford refurb and warranted it for 1 year or 36K.
I'm wondering if I was ripped by the non-Ford tranny replacement.
Anyway, everything is fine now but I wonder how long it will last me.
Did you have a Ford extended warranty or an aftermarket warranty? If it is a Ford one, they should have used a Ford tranny, and i would have demanded that one. If it is aftermarket, you are at their mercy i believe, i dont think they have to use genuine parts.
Either way, if the tranny was rebuilt correctly and all of the wearable parts were replaced, you should have no problems.
It's was the extended so I guess I was at their mercy.
The research I did was just look on this website and the manual.
After taking the Tranny apart the tech charged back about 2800 bucks total for repair of my original tranny. The warranty company optd to replace it with a non-Ford instead of rebuilding the orginal.
