I recently purchased a 1996 f-350 powertroke with 69,000 miles and the o/d light started to blink and the tranny fluid was burnt when I changed it. The o/d light comes on at freeway speeds and with the code ran it said the torque converter was slipping. The truck shifts smooth until the light comes on. I had the solenoid pack replaced but noticed the same problems. It feels like the torque converter is not locking up at all. Would replacing the torque converter fix the problem? Or is it some sensor that is causing it? I really don't want to spend two to three grand on a tranny with a truck that has such low miles. Any help or suggestions would be great thanks.
Could be the TC but you can check the VSS Vehicle speed sensor on top the rear axle. Pull it out and clean it, put it back in. While you're under there check the electrical connectors on the tranny.
ya i have that same problem on my 2002 f-250 diesel truck, im at 127k miles on the truck, but the off light flashes on the over drive all the time. the truck drives and shifts fine. and the over drive button works fine to. jus the light keeps blinking. im asuming normal function of the off light is for it to stay lit when its on. and when u turn off the over drive it turns off? but right now it just blinks all the time. though i did see it stay off for about 15 minuts one day in the morning, and i tested it, the light would turn on when i turned it on. and then stay off when i turned the OD off. so i should be checking my VSS as well huh? becasue everything els works fine, drives great..
