I think everyone took off today to make it a four-day-weekend, and left town yesterday evening.
I was at UCLA at 1600, and was going to meet up with Ken (woodnthings) for dinner. He is down here with the new Boeing 747-800 doing flight-testing at San Bernardino (the old Norton AFB). We arranged to meet at the Elephant Bar adjacent to his hotel, and since I was much closer at the start to the I-10 than the I-210, I headed east on the Santa Monica Freeway at 1615. Whadda' mistake that was!
I arrived in San Bernardino at around 1930. Three hours transit, during which I ended up on the 215 anyway, as Garmin shot me north on the 605. Closures and accidents really slowed things down. Saw a Chubby krewkab, still upright, with his long-ish bumper-pull on its side on the 210. Even though west-bound, the lookie-loo's had us backed up for miles.....
Meeting Ken, however, made it all worth it. He is one of the technical mainstays over at 7.3. Though kinda' new there, he's not new to the engine and frame. He's an aircraft maintenance supervisor for Boeing Flight Test. You can imagine what his truck must look like!!!
Howdy Folks,
Marv, gotta love those freeway rubber-neckers
Boy would I love to sit n listen to a Boeing Flight Test Maint Sup. I've been a airplane nut ever since I'za a kid. So he gets to fly around in that new jumbo during test flights? Sounds like a dream job.
So that's what, about a 20 mph average? Sounds miserable...but I guess unless you're traveling via aircraft, you can't get to 'Berdoo from West LA during daylight hours without some heartache. At least the meeting on the other end made it all worth it.
Well y'all have a great and safe weekend. Another 2 hours and I'll be packin up to head down to San Diego for the weekend. All day at the beach tomorrow and then onto the New Lo-An for some fishing Saturday night and all day Sunday!
I-15 coming in from the south end of town was already backed up at 11am this morning.
Got the toy hauler hooked and fueled for the long haul to the softball field tomorrow. It's 5 miles away. At least we'll stay cool between games. That alone is worth listening to all the people b!tch about me taking up so much parking on the street.
