axle is trapped between the gear box and wheel hub. You will need to remove the tire, barkes and caliper. Remove the ball joint to A- frame joint. Remove the center nut on the axle. PUll the A- frame and wheel hub/bearing off the axle shaft and set to the side. Now you can work on the axle shaft to pumpkin joint.

Thanks for your reply, I can get the hub/bearing assembly off the axle but just wondering if there is any retainer/circlip holding the axle into the pumkin. I take it thats what you guys call the diff.
