Has anyone made their own liner out of sheet, maybe using the original as a templet? I was considering this and mounting a radio in there. Ive never removed the cardboard liner in the truck, so not sure if a rigid unit would fit.
I mounted my Stereo in my glove box with a NOS replacement from the truck shop. It has been in there for 2 years now, and is fine! I made a surround out of sheet metal that is painted black, and I have a single Din Stereo mounted in there. I like the old style, Cardboard, as it was easy to put holes in, and mount the stereo, the glove box drops right in from the front, and my thought is that a sheet metal one would be a bit of a pain to fit in from below and behind. Another issue might be dissipating the heat from the stereo with it mounted to a sheet metal box. See this link!
There's a mini flocking kit; includes spray adhesive and material according to desired material, texture and color, with instructions. See the kit in hobby shops; where 'do it yourselfers' will apply the flocking material to line a jewlery box, for example. Purchased the kit online few yrs. ago for restoring the interior of a 64 console, I had sent off for a back issue of Muscle Machine magazine where they had an article where the flocking kit was used in restoring 64 GTO console. Anyhow, certainly seems like it would incapsulate and deaden some of the noise from glove box; food for thought>
