i have never dealt with OBD I electronics..... my truck doesn't have that fancy smancy electronic nonsense but i think this is what ya need just doing a quick search....
having a flashing OD lite is limp mode i believe.
i don't think the torque converter will lock like this.
start with the basics.
fuses.
relays (they are in that under hood fuse panel-im drawing a blank at what that's called right now.)
corroded wires/dirty connectors(around any sensors/clips.)
brake lites.

Thanks for the link, they have it at my local store so I just might pick one up.

Yeah, I'm gonna check all the fuses, conections, brake lights today. For some reason I thought limp mode was when it only went into 1st and 2nd gear?
Light no longer flashing, I'm sure its just cause everything got wet. It was raining cats and dogs last night, lol. Thanks for all the help, I'll let ya'll know if it starts again.
Hello Gentlemen. I am relatively new to Ford trucks and the forums but I am also having this blinking OD light issue on my 97 7.3 PSD. It started out of nowhere back in the cold wet weather.
I plan on pulling codes and checking fuses but I saw someone in this thread refer to checking the FIPL or FPIL under the hood? Can someone help me out as to what this is?

Any other things I should be looking for?
Thanks
I think yours is OBDII that means more or different error codes and your engine is computer controlled so you will get codes from that to. most if not all the transmission stuff will probably be the same (same transmission but a different computer controlling it) You will probably find more relevant Info for your truck in this forum: 1994.5 - 1997 7.3L Power Stroke Diesel
On the FIPL I don't think your truck has one it uses a totaly different arrangement someone will pop up and correct me if I am wrong about that.
Thanks for the responses and for the forwarding of the E4OD PDF files. Much obliged.
I have gotten great advice off the boards here and elsewhere and want to say a general THANK YOU to everyone out there. God Bless you all.
I have used my AE Scantool (yeah I sprang for it) and it looks like I am having an issue with my Transmission Range Sensor so I am looking into that now.
snapon did the light start blinking again i just noticed mine started today in the drive can someone tell me how to tell if its in limp mode this things got me freaking out now cause i got to hall a 6k lb horse trailer with four horses in it tomorrow and i really don't want to get stuck
For what its worth, I am no expert, but I can tell you my truck is currently in what I think is limp mode until I get Tranny Range sensor fixed.
The symptoms I have are sharp, abrupt shifting from 1 to 2 and a general feeling of lack of power on acceleration. To be fair, since I noticed the OD light I have babied the truck and not had it on the road, only did some test drives around the parking lot but most posts I have read regarding limp mode seem to talk about hard shifting and sometimes lack of power.
