Had my 05 excursion serviced at a local shop and it came back with a conventional green colored antifreeze installed. I asked about the change and they said they have been using it in all deisels for years with no problems, and prefer it to the Ford gold coolant.
So exactly why is the green coolent bad for Ford diesels ? and should I flush it out ASAP ?

I think the problem with the green is the silicates in it clog the EGR and Oil coolers. I'm not sure I did a search and didn't find the answer. Maybe someone with some brain power will chime in ans splain it to us.
That's what Chezit said in one of the other forum's the silicates form blockages in the oil cooler and then you get more problems down the road. I would call Ford and place a complaint or an inquirey and then get the district managers # and call him and meet him at the dealership and like everybody else said have them flush and fill with the correct fluid. And to be on e the safe side sit there and watch them do it,that will really **** them off.
There is a scenario in which a green coolant may "work" (term used loosely)
IF the shop in question used a low silicate (diesel rated ASTM D4985) non charged coolant. Then added the appropriate quantity of sca additive.
In most applications it is good for 3 years/30000 miles, if checked regularly. (old technology) Would I go this route ? Only in those older engines.
Many say only Cat rated ELC coolant. (Silicates are killing our engines).
But remember Ford recommends GO5. (Silicates are required to protect aluminum components)
Have we gone full circle yet ?
In all fairness it was NOT a Ford dealership that put in the "green" coolent. I would hope the dealer would know better.... but who knows.
I understand that Ford recommends 'Gold' coolent, but was wondering WHY the green stuff is bad. Seems it's because of the silicates potentially clogging the coolers ?
I think I'll drain/flush and go with a good ELC coolent....CAT, if I can find it.

CAT, in my reference means Catapiller Corp., a leader in the development and manufacture of ELC (Extra or Extended Life Coolent). There are other manufacturers too, like Shell (Rotella)....etc
