I have a 2003 PSD 7.3 it has 96k miles i took it in to firestone today for a coolent flush, It had the gold coolent when i brought it in, Firestone flushed the old gold coolent with NEW Gold coolent, But they added some type of car quest diesel coolent treatment. Im reading here and in my manual that this is not needed in the gold only the green, I asked firestone if this will be bad on the truck to drive, they said it will not hurt it one bit, I called 4 differnt ford dealers and got 4 differnt awnsers, some said its no biggie and safe to drive, some said flush it ASAP Can anyone please help me, I dont want to drive the truck if this will damage it? if its no biggie i will just leave it, if its going to damage truck i will have them re-flush, But the thing is they can do it to monday and i need the truck this weekend, Any info at all will help.
This is what they put in with my new gold coolent
CAR QUEST COOLING SYSTEM TREATMENT 89056
-COOLING SYSTEM RUSH AND SCALE INHIBITOR
-KEEPS COOLING SYSYEM CLEAN
-WILL NOT AFFECT GASKET OR HOSES
- COMPATIBLE WITH ETHYENE OR PROPYLENE GLYCOL BASE ANTIFREES
Regardless of what they used, it is not going to hurt your engine to drive it over the weekend. I don't know which coolant they used, but personally, I wouldn't want any brand other than "Motorcraft Premium Gold" or "Zerex G-05" coolant in my system. I don't know if the new "mix with anything" gold coolants are approved for ford diesels or not. If the additive doesn't specifically say that it is approved for ford diesels running gold coolant, I would make them change it.
