Final Charge, Rotella ELC are the same stuff, made by Old World Industries.

What you want to look for is Cat EC-1 specification.

Final Charge and Rotella ELCs are the same. I would suggest you get four gallons of which ever ELC you can find locally in concentrate and go with it. Delo, Cat, Zerex, they all make HD diesel ELCs too. Just make sure you get at least 20 gallons of distilled water to get all that green stuff out...

Alternatively, you can go with the G-05 Gold Semi-ELC. It's a 100k mile coolant, and you don't have to check SCAs. But you still have to do a good flush.

EDIT: Beat me to it, Cluxy....

Always a good idea to use distilled water.

The diesel elc's are good for 3 years/300,000 miles, 6 years/600,000 with a recharge.

The final charge at Wal-Mart is already 50/50.

this is the stuff that you want. it is extended life coolant. I think I used 6 gallons.. can't remember for sure. You have to do a real good coolant flush to get all that green crap out... It is real easy to do. Look up Gooch's coolant flush ... it is the best and easiest way to flush the system...

All you can really do is pH check it, and change it at 100k. I'm almost at 100k, so mine's getting dumped for ELC too...

Another vote for the red CAT ELC extended life coolant good for 300k miles.

I'd also put a coolant filter in while you're at it

Thanks, think yall just saved my butt, least my truck

Just browsing through the threads when I hit this one. Found out earlier this week my new used truck was a cali truck with your help, now this.

Went out and looked at the trucks coolant, green..... Worse yet, looked really light in color. Put my handy ancient coolant tester in, good to +20 F. that isn't exactly going to cut it in Montana winters I am betting. Looks like I will be doing a major flush and putting real coolant in this weekend with the new glo plugs.

Thanks, Tom

I personally don't think you need a coolant filter with full ELC. It's only necessary when you have coolant with SCAs in it that "drop out". Full ELC coolant has NO SCAs in them, so there's nothing to drop out, and nothing to filter. Save your $$$. My humble opinion.....

Unless there is still sand left in your block... then the filter is nice...
