VREF is a conditioned regulated constant 5v power source supplied by the PCM. VBAT is battery voltage, which can vary from 12 to 15 volts.
The purpose behind VREF is to give sensors a precise power input, so that you can reliably conclude that a certain output value is what it is. If the input were variable, like VBAT is, then the output wouldn't be reliable.
OK, with the scangauge, how can I see if the Vref is good or not?
As I see, V bat is only battery power?
Ok, now I'm interested in this. I have the Vref set up in my SC II.
VREF ("My notes indicate that this is the Calibration Voltage Input", comment by James )
TXD: 07E0221155 (cheezit, I think this would be the PID # 1155)
RXF: 046205110655
RXD: 3010
MTH: 000133330000
NAM: CVI
So, I'm curious if it is reading right. The Name on the Gauge is set as CVI for now. That is how it came to me. So, let's just call it that.
During my taping of the gauge, it kept reading 4. So, would this be a "good" reading if it is reading 4 all the time? I might have to ask for an update or a check involving this number. The Author of the gauge said above "My notes indicate that this is the Calibration Voltage Input"
Does that make sense?
Here is the video of the gauge, it appears at 1:14.

I have been following with the scangauge as well
anyway I put in the x-gauge for the vref today and I got the exact same reading you did 4v
before I did it though I was expecting it to read 5v
I think this Xgauge needs to be changed a little if its possible
