I have been reading about the 140v and the 10k mods. These seem to be relatively easy and cheap to do. I only have a 6637, will these be ok to do, should I do one and not the other or both at the same time? I have heard the 10k will keep your idle higher. Thanks for the help
You can do them both at the same time. They're not doing the same thing
IIRC: The 140v IDM will open the injectors faster and keep them open longer. The 10k mod makes the pcm think you need more fuel than you actually do. Someone can correct me if i'm way off with that, but I think it's close. Some have the idle issue and some don't. I didn't see much performance gain from the 10k, so went to a 5.7K on a switch (made idle choppy). That wasn't enough so I went with a chip. The 10K is cheap, and fun to play around with, but you're going to get bored of it and want more power. Time to save for a chip!
From what i understand the pcm is tricked into increasing oil pressure to your injectors for snappier fuel delivery.
This mod did not affect my idle at all and increased my lower end significantly.
Well worth the $6.00 while saving up for a chip

Reason: typo
there was a thread put a year or so ago, maybe even longer when it was dyno proven with several variations of the resistor mods were tested. every truck is different and will respond differently. its not a HUGE gain but its a nice seat of the pants gain
I know some on here don't like them and some apparently don't like the 140V IDM. I feel the seat of the pants rule works on that IDM. A parts supplier that sells them told me the 10K "didn't do anything", that's why I never tried it. But of course they sell tuners and chips. I never felt they were leading me on. As a matter of fact they have helped to diagnose problems when they didn't get a sell. But you say dyno proven, hard to disregard. Especially when you're on a budget.
when i played around with it, i put several combos on a gang switch so i wouldnt have to keep getting out of the truck. i could go from stock to 20k while on the fly and feel the difference

i love the 140 mod. some of the cheap chips you see on ebay are just the 10k mod in a fancy case
The EGT gauge should be next. We only have it on the '87 with banks sidewinder. I imagine the wire size/length has something to do with resistance as well, could this not cause some of the inconsistency in results?
