I run across this listing all the time on ebay. Has anybody ever had any experience with this product. And is it truly like the OEM style harnesses? I'm well aware of the EZ Wire, Rebel, etc. But I'd just like to know what any of you might know about this one and how complete it really is.
If you're doing a stock, concours resto, it's probably worth looking into. It sounds like a well made kit. But it isn't suitable, imho, as any kind of an upgrade. It will still have all of the issues we now consider problems with original wiring, with regard to lack of adequate fuse protection, high electrical load on components, etc. That's what makes the EZ wire, Painless, et al, so popular. You can wire your truck like a modern vehicle, easily, safely and inexpensively.
There are very, very few wires in an OEM harness. Why would you want to rewire it as stock (6V Pos ground) unless doing a full resto?
Why not? Just preference. Nothing more. I don't see any reason to switch it form 6 volt postive ground. The truck is an original farm truck that spent it's entire life on one particular farm down in Tennessee. It has the typical dings, dents, and some minor rust issues. When you open the hood, you see the bulk of the original wiring harness which is really starting to show its age. I just thought it would be neat to put it back original. Sure, there's lots of concerns about fire hazards, lack of fuses, etc. etc. But heck, it's survived for over 60 years now as it is. Why not leave it like it is and keep the authentic look under the hood.
On the other hand, my 50 F1 is sitting right beside it in about a zillion pieces. It's gonna have some modern conveniences and obviously a modern looking wiring harness. They're just two different animals in my eyes.
Let me clarify something about that harness. As I understand it, that harness is made from modern wiring. It just has cloth over it to make it look authentic. I personally think it's a lot of money. I was just wondering if anybody had ever used it. It's just interesting to me.
Doc, that harness should work fine.....I bought a stock harness from Mac's to wire my truck. Very good quality, and fit perfectly. About the same price, well worth it to me for ease of installation. Remember this is just the dash and firewall harness...no light wires or generator wires. Still, if you are staying 6 volt (I did) these make wiring pretty simple. Just unhook the old one and install the new one, it took me an afternoon, and that was with cleaning up the gauges, etc. Pm me if you have ?????
I, too, bought a OEM style wiring harness and kept my truck 6 volt positive ground. I put it on 11 years ago and it has worded fine for me. I got it from Mid-Fifty. I do not know how the prices compare but I would rather buy from Mid-Fifty than someone on ebay....
Thanks tinman. I was looking at the harness parts in the MAC's catalog. You're right. Very comparable prices. I had a long discussion this afternoon with that guy who sells this one on ebay. His friend started making them years ago and basically has copied various harnesses down to the very detail. Including the correct color coding and various lengths of the wires, etc. I just thought it was very interesting that somebody would have the patience and talent to reproduce those like that. He said it was indeed an exact duplicate of original. I'm not sure I'm gonna go that route with my old farm truck, but hey it's a thought someday.
