Heated Spacer help

Hey guys, I have been looking for a heated spacer for my 300 build. Found a couple on Ebay, just looking for some more knowledgable thoughts.
Ford carb spacer for 390 FE 4V aluminum # C4AE-9A589-C - eBay (item 260716782859 end time Jan-11-11 02:40:51 PST)

1962 1963 1964 THUNDERBIRD 4V CARB SPACER - eBay (item 390271905452 end time Jan-13-11 08:39:09 PST)

They seem to be pretty much the same, but have a different parts numbers. Just wanted to get some advice before I start throwing money around. Thanks for the help guys.

Either one of those will work but you will have to modify a bit. See where the vacuum port sticks out? That has to be blocked somehow because on the offy or cliffy there is no base under that tab. I would probably trace a piece of sheet metal, then glue a gasket between the int. and the spacer, then a gasket between carb and spacer. I think I read somewhere about using epoxy, but I would be afraid of v. leak.

Why not just do this:

If you do, I would weld allthe fittings to prevent leakage. I only welded the base, and wished I had done them all. The long pipes make it a lot easier to install, tighten, maintain the clamps and hoses. The entire thing sits on the under side of the offy intake.

I used a spacer for a while that was cut to mine, but then went the epoxy route. It wasn't too difficult.

Fill it with JB weld until it starts to set (soft, pliable, but does not stick to anything), and then press it against a machined surface. I used another carb spacer. I also stood on it to be sure it was pressed firmly. Leave it for 24 hours.

Pull the two apart, and you'll have a perfectly flat surface and no vac leaks. Just have to be sure the JB weld is set up enough that it's not sticky at all.

Both will work the same, but the one I have on mine is the: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ford-...mZ260716782859

I used some fast weld putty to fill the void. Dries in an hour and then took a block of wood and sand paper and sanded it down flat with no problems. Basically same thing as jb weld but no mixing.

Sounds good. Ended up getting neither of those, haha. Instead got one for $43, shipped to my door, from another guy on ebay. Same thing though. I have thought about doing both heated spacer and heat to the bottom of the manifold. That had been discussed a couple places. Also had read about filling that void in the spacer. Thanks for the help guys. One more step down! Woo!

Im currently running a heated spacer and heated plate and I can feel quite abit of difference in throttle response and all around drivability compared to just when I was running the heated spacer.
