When your truck is 'broke' tha creates stress. I try and deal with stress with humor. My humor sometimes confuses people

Most of their dealers will give you a heads up to this and advise you DO NOT UPDATE your firmware. If you DO DECIDE to update your firmware and perform a tunes download I suggest you be sitting outside a FORD service garage. BECAUSE THE UNIT CAN NOT RETURN THE TRUCK TO STOCK. SCT dismall customer support will eat your time like Washington eats our tax dollars. Eventually the will blame it on your 'faulty' ECM (truck computer) that was running perfectly before they abandone you and no longer take your calls. I BLAME MYSELF for tinkering with an amazing running machine.
Scepticle of this ? I suggest you GOOGLE the following words in any combination:

SCT ECU FRIED
SCT PCM FRIED
SCT ECU DAMAGE
SCT PCU DAMAGE
SCT PROGRAM FAIL
SCT FORD DAMAGE

I just bought an SCT from a local dealer. I upgraded the firmware, loaded a stock tune and changed the Revs for tire size. Nothing changed, no increase in performance and speedo is still way off. Loaded several times, returned it to stock and loaded again...nada. The X3 does work as I can datalog many parameters in the ECU. Called SCT and waited for 30 mins for someone to pick up...nada and gave up, tried online tech support....no answer, sent e-mail....no answer. Have an appointment with the local guys hopefully they know what to do. At least the truck didn't become DOA.

One thing to note though. SCT has a little blurb on their website for the 6.0l diesel Excursions, about resetting your PAT. If your theft light is flashing real fast you will have to do this. Excursion PAT Relearn Procedure - SCT SupportSuite. Mine is not a diesel as I have the gas 6.8L, however I tried this as my theft light was flashing real fast. Figured what the hell.

Not trying to hijack the thread.. but some of this is relevant.

If you bought it from a local dealer, ALWAYS go to the local dealer BEFORE trying SCT directly. I think that's the root-cause of the poor customer service, they don't actually deal with the general public much, and would rather work through dealers.

I bought mine used off of ebay and SCT has helped my plenty of times ,, the only time that really can't is if you bought it from a retailer and are having custom tune issues IMHO

I don't understand. You loaded a stock tune and didn't see an increase in performance? I wouldn't expect an increase if you stayed with stock tuning.

As far as the speedo goes, the SCT will not correct the analog speedo in your truck. It will correct the tire size in the tuning so that your transmission shift points are correct and probably your computer calculated mileage is more accurate, but your speedo will still be off since it's not electronic based.

Actually, it is, the dealer can change it, so it is possible. Just that most (all?) tuners can't.

Tire Size
Allows you to set the tire size to correct shift patterns and the speedometer on your vehicle

the A/E will adjust it also
the speedo is not mechanical

^^ That there.

I have heard of certain pcm and strategy codes where the speedo can be adjusted but it is a select few in the earlier SD models. I never had a SD where I could correct the speedo with either an SCT or a Diablosport.

There should be an asterick in that quote somewhere that states "only certain vehicles" or something to that effect.
