Trying to glue down my rubber floor mat....the floor is covered with fatmat sound deadener stuff (aluminum?). It needs to be a pretty strong glue to keep the edges down. I'm thinking maybe Gorilla glue or Goop?
Open to suggestions....
I've always said that Gorilla glue can fix anything or hold anything. It's some pretty stout stuff. But I gotta ask. Is your sound deadening mat glued down to the floorboard? And are you talking about the reproduction rubber mat like the original? Or are you talking about some sort of custom rubber mat that covers everything? I'm just worried about dirt and/or moisture getting down under that thing and you not being able to pull it out to fix it.
I agree with Mountaindoc, unless the deadener is removable too, you'll want to get under there periodically.
You can use that aluminum edging they sell at Home Depot etc to clamp down the edges. I was going to do that but my mat eventually laid flat by itself.
Gorilla is amazing but in my experience it's not great with rubber. There's a product called Shoe Goo that works really well on rubber but you have an interesting combo with rubber on one side and deadener on the other, i'm not sure how it would work for that.
I've been thinking about this. I think a good option for this sound deading stuff would be to first hold off until the new mat has been given adequate enough time to lay down everywhere (a good hot sunny day laying on blacktop then quickly sticking it into the truck while it's still hot would help if this wretched winter would ever end). Then, after it's kind of gotten itself settled into place, take it out of the truck, flip it over, and cut out a piece of that sound deadening stuff to match it but with maybe like a 1 1/2" inch shorter border all around. Then just glue the sound deadener to the back of the mat. That way you would get the benefit of the sound deadener and the convenience of being able to remove the whole thing to clean, access the tranny cover, etc. Just a thought.
The sound deadener is self adhesive with aluminum backing.....and already stuck down. Probably forever. The rubber mat is one I made and is like 3/8" thick. The front part under feet will be screwed down on the edges so it can be removed. It's the part under the seat that I want to glue down, as it is made of a couple of smaller pieces that won't stay put.
I suppose I could screw them down too, but I hate drilling a bunch of holes in the floor.
Keep the ideas coming.....
