I'm trying to put the bed on my '59 and having a couple problems.
1. Right now there are wooden blocks as bushings(some are missing) all different heights. What should the stock mounts look like?
2. The bed is from a '64, so it looks exactly like a '59 bed but now that it's sitting on the truck it looks like the mounting holes are different. Only one set lines up. Has anyone else had this issue, I'll just drill new holes in the frame but I always though 57-64 beds were exactly the same?
Colin,I'll go look under my truck in a minute, but those wooden spacer blocks could be correct,I've seen them in other places on my truck.Cust redrill the bolt-holes,use some hardwood spacers.I couldn't find a good illustration.
Those are indeed the correct mounts, hardwood blocks that simply take up the space between the beds cross supports and the frame.I'd set the bed in place, measure the gaps, remove the bed and reinstall using blocks cut perhaps 3/16" larger than the actual measured gaps. The wood will compress as you tighten the bolts.
How much of a gap should there be between the cab and the bed? Now it seems like none of the hole line up, 2 sets are close but put either touching the cab or what looks like a little too far back.
