New bed

In this conversion I will be making a 78 Explorer bed fit on a 76 Highboy frame. So I do not have to drill holes in the bed we are making custom bed mounts for the bed and since the bed holes are wider than the highboy frames they will stick out past the frame. So far we have got 6 of the bed mounts fabbed up and stuck on the frame. The mounts will go on as from the back of the cab 3in, 3in, 2and3/4, 3in. The third one back is different because the bed has a different contour to the frame compared to a highboy bed. I dont want the frame drilled yet so we will evetually put the bed on to mark where the third mount back goes for sure.
Here are the mounts so far.
Here is what the bed looks like from a while back while it was half hazardly sitting on the frame with 2x4s.

So does the bed ! Never seen anyone do it the way you are. It certainly will be a lot more work, but doing it the other way presents a few problems as well. When you move the bolt holes you have to make a sleeve to put down in the hole so the bolt will tighten up and not just crush it's way down, never really tightening up. Keep us posted with new pictures. Any plans to put a fuel tank between the frame rails at this point ?

Well, got the bed mounted and assituated here. We finished all of the mounts and even got ambitous and made more just to support the rest of the crossmembers like the frame would have so the bed would not bow.

Also got the fuel cell and threw it up there with gummy straps to see what it looked like.
