Lower steering column?

I have a 66 F250 and recently the cab mounts have gave out a bit and the lower steeering column was resting on the shaft. upon inspection it looks as if there should be a race or bearing or something. all I have is the column tube and the shaft coming out. can anybody tell me what I should have there as far as a bearing, any sort of retainer or anything? thanks
Shane

Shane, Yeah, it should have all that stuff.

There is a race at the bottom of the column with a bearing, and there is a retainer that goes around the steering shaft that is held in place by a clamp, although it doesn't actually retain the bearing itself, but centers the shaft inside the column.

I am surprised you can even steer it or shift, unless it is a 4-speed.

ya its a 4 on the floor. it still has the clamp on it but thats it, no retsiner or bearing. when I search dennis carpenter site I see the bearing but no retainer and also there looks to be some plastic piece. do I need that?

The plastic piece you refer to is the retainer, but it does not retain the bearing. It is the white slotted piece you partially see here and is held in place by the clamp.

I have a three on the tree column out in my shop, that is similar to yours, take a look:
