Basically I was saying if you do that work to the 400 and the same work the 300, the 400 will out perform it. And you wont have to change towers, transmissions, etc.
Well I got the granny 4 speed so all I have to change is bell housing's...
If anyone wants a 300 I have one I'll throw in a bell housing for it and a RTS 3speed transmission... I'll sell all that for... 800 all you'll need is a clutch and pressure plate
And well of course a truck to put it in and a carb
I think that is a good choice.I personally would way rather have the v8.I know a guy who took a 300 out of an 86 f150 and put a 302 in it and said his gas mileage improved.May not be the case with the 400 but i really don't think the 300s are all that efficient either,as far as gas mileage goes.
I'm not really that worried about the mileage on this truck, other than summer time it won't see much use, it might see mud 2 times other than that I'm just gonna show it off and work out of some. (When I fell lookin like a bad *** lol)
Since you've decided to stick with the 400, you might want to give Tim Meyer a call at TMeyer, Inc. He knows the tricks of the trade to get the oil pressure issues under control, and you might be able to pass those along to your builder. You might also want to look into getting a set of flat top pistons for your 400 from him, as that'll bump up the lousy stock compression. Tim carries pretty much anything you need for a 400 build, and has the knowledge to back it up. If anything, it might give you piece of mind so you don't have to worry about your 400 going dry. Just Google TMeyer, and you'll find him.
Thanks for that company... I may just get some flat top pistons from him, I may go with a comp thumper cam....(The small one the produces good low end, but has the choppy idle of a HUGE cam)
I can't not express how much I love the sound of a huge cam in a bit block........ Throw a good exhaust system on it with the cam and its sex for my ears lol
